Community

The vision of our Community Ministry is to equip First Reformed Church members to reach out with the practical and life-changing love of Jesus Christ to people in the greater Grandville and Grand Rapids area who are struggling with social, physical, emotional, economic and spiritual conditions that hinder their ability to be fully engaged members of the community.

The First Serve Team researches and implements new areas of community ministry for members of First Reformed.

Maple Tree Preschool is an outreach serving 140 children in our area. The ministry to these children continues to bring families to our church, but more importantly continuing to expose children and their families to Jesus Christ.

Our Vacation Bible School brings God’s Word to neighborhood children with a typical attendance of 120 per day enjoying crafts and Bible stories. Our ministry to children is a growing and vital element of our Christian education, outreach and evangelism.

MomBreak meetings are held at First Church the 1st & 3rd Fridays of the month from 9:30-11:00 a.m.  MomBreak is about celebrating motherhood, making connections with other moms, providing support and affirmation and experiencing God's love through relationships and resources.

First Church Food Pantry  is a partner to UCOM.  We store, asemble and deliver food to Grandville and Wyoming families in need who have limited mobility or lack of transportation.

Our radio ministry is important in many ways. It provides worship and connection for our senior and shut-in members but also is an avenue to reach others for Christ.

In addition, there are a variety of intermediate and longer-term projects for ministry and involvement. These tend to be more task-oriented and time limited and include things such as:
  • Donate food for the Access Food Pantry
  • Donate holiday food baskets for Access families
  • Donate prepared meals, groceries and diapers for the Family Crisis Center
  • Donate school supplies for Love Inc.
  • Donate used clothing for those in need
  • Help with local mission agencies
  • Participate with Habitat for Humanity
  • Donate toys for the Christmas Store at The Other Way
