Small Groups

Just imagine a journey in which you can:
  • Share your life with others who care
  • Learn God’s Word
  • Enjoy social events with friends
  • Support others when they need help
  • Receive support when life throws you a ‘curve’
  • Enjoy a strong relationship with Christ
  • Work with friends to help those less fortunate
At First Church, we believe that lives are changed and spiritual growth happens best in a small group setting. Our small groups are safe places where people share their lives, study the truth of God’s Word, and hold each other accountable to living life according to God’s directions. Each group is free to choose their own curriculum and set up their own schedule. In addition, groups are always open to inviting new people.

Frequently asked questions about Small Groups

What are my responsibilities?

Your responsibilities include studying the lessons prior to your meeting, praying consistently for your small group, caring for each other, and attending as many meetings as possible. It is also your responsibility to grow into the person God desires you to be.

Do I have to attend every meeting?
We know things come up that may prevent you from attending. However, we encourage each member to make a commitment to attend the meetings. As you grow closer to other members, you will find it to your benefit to be there.

Will I have to lead a meeting?
No, not unless you are comfortable with doing this. However, you may eventually want to lead a small group of your own. Participants who feel called to become small group leaders are trained through our apprentice program. This invaluable experience allows you to walk alongside another leader and be equipped to lead a small group. Our small group leaders are also able to participate in excellent training programs through the Willow Creek Association.

Will I have to pray aloud?
Your participation is up to you. As you become more comfortable with other members, praying aloud may become natural.

Is child care available?
Each small group makes their own arrangements about child care.
